Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1)

Do you like alternate history? Plucky heroines overcoming extreme adversity? Social and political commentary neatly disguised by a story about zombies? Then boy, have I got a book for you! Let me recommend the wonderful audiobook edition, which gave me many hours of listening pleasure. This novel is the perfect remedy if you're feeling a little tired of Young Adult business as usual (white girls taking out the establishment while figuring out a love triangle). The author explores issues of both gender and race deftly, while never letting up the tension. Brilliantly executed and highly recommended.
