I'd meant to read this after Katrina, when it came out, but never got around to it. Though some of Piazza's concerns post-K are a teensy bit dated now, they still are good and thoughtful concerns for the most part, as NOLA continues to rebuild. The meat of this book is timeless and covers every aspect of New Orleans culture in a direct, down-to-earth, honest way. If you've never been to NOLA, or if you can't understand why people live here, or why we came back, you absolutely need to read this.
