I really enjoyed this book by Grisham, and it takes a departure from his usual formula. Joel Backman is a broker who has pocketed a lot of wealth at the expense of others in his dishonest dealings. Now he admits to his wrongdoing in order to avoid being killed. The government creates a new identity for him and sends him to Italy in the hopes that several countries will send their trained assassins to take him out. His story of trying to avoid being killed creates a suspenseful, action-packed plot that held my interest to the end. Grisham knows how to put together a thriller while exposing society in its worst elements, and this was no exception as he portrays the world of greed and corruption.
