it was amazing

The audiobook for this novel is fantastic. The story is incredibly brutal, scary, and creepy, but the narrator's lovely Irish accent keeps it from sliding into sorrowful. The author does a brilliant job of keeping the tension high throughout--the kids never know when they'll be taken by the Fae, or what exactly they'll face in the Fae world. The romance is bittersweet without being saccharine, as our young lovers know they're both doomed and love is a distraction they can't afford. I also love that the heroine has a disability, which she doesn't have magically cured, and which doesn't give her some magical ability to overcome the Fae despite her challenges. If you're looking for a scary, fast-paced read, this book is the perfect choice for you! I can't wait for the sequel.
