Well-written and easy to read. Unlike many other readers, I have never read her more popular novel, "Girl with the Pearl Earring", which everyone seems to agree is much better than this one. I'm glad I don't have anything to compare it to at this point. The set-up is a split narrative - one story about modern day Ella, the other about 1500's Isabelle. I loved the French religious persecution history and all the ancestry searches. Some negatives: the plot becomes a bit unbelievable with too many blatant coincidences. The ending is a little unsatisfying and incomplete. There's a constant reference to Ella's having psoriasis, why? I couldn't see where it had anything to do with the story. Also, tons of French dialogue - tricky if you don't know French! A little "Hollywoodish" - but I'm swamped and stressed at work, so I loved the easy "escape" of the whole story!
