** spoiler alert ** Little Brother is great. It's about a near-future society where the Department of Homeland Security is invading people's personal lives after an attack on the East Bay Bridge in San Francisco. Our hero, Marcus, is caught up and arrested by the DHS, then imprisoned on a Gitmo-like island for 7 days while his family believed he was dead.

When he is released, he decides to take down the DHS using cryptography, digital jamming, and other fun hacks.

(Oh, and I desperately want to play Clockwork Plunder - the steampunk pirate game that Marcus plays.)

Ken Clockwork Plunder? Is it anything like Clockwork Orange?

Also: good for classroom?

Also: Any relation to E.L. Doctorow?

Trina Not good for the 8th grade classroom because of a sex scene. (And quite critical of the government, so it would depend on your district for high school libraries.)

And possibly related to E.L. Doctorow, but there's no official confirmation.

Ken Two or THREE (mild) sex scenes, you mean. Anyway, I loved it, so thanks for the rec. Too bad the little ones can't love it, too (at least via me booktalking it). Sometimes I wish I taught high school again. Than again...
