Brian Robeson is a thirteen year-old boy whose parents have just divorced and he is going to spend the summer with his Dad in the oil fields when the pilot of his plane has a heart attack and dies and his plane crashes. The hatchet his Mom gave him right before he left is his only tool he has to help him survive in the Canadian wilderness all alone. Brian has some interesting experiences while trying to survive.

This book keeps you interested from the very beginning to see how Brian is going to survive and if he will ever be rescued. Paulsen adds humor and suspense to this award winning survival book. It is a great book for boys and reluctant readers.
