I'm marking this as four stars for the subject of the story, not that I thought it was brilliantly written.

I haven't been able to find any novels or stories about male/male solider relationships during World War 2 except for this one. And while it was a bittersweet tale, I wish it was better written. Yes I know it's just a flash-fiction, less than 1000 words, but it could have been much more powerful.

I didn't believe that I was reading a story told by a young man. It felt like a story told by a woman. Perhaps first person wasn't the best choice for point of view.

But regardless of how I feel about the way the story was written, I am very glad it exists.
