really liked it

This Pulitzer Prize winning book is one of my favorite historical nonfiction books of all time.

My favorite type of book - where the author puts in the work to comb through vast amounts of research to present a short, insightful summary. Joseph Ellis begins the book with his belief that, in writing, "less could be more." That the job of an author is to "row out over the great ocean of material, and lower down into it…a little bucket, which will bring up to the light" selective insights.

With incredible insight, Ellis deftly analyzes 6 fascinating episodes from the "most important decade in our nation's history."
