Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History
Oct 21, 2011
This was a good book that filled in a big gap in my understanding of history. A short summary of the book is that it is about cowboys and indians. More meaningfully, he talks about the Comanche people, culture, battles between the Comanche and the Texas Rangers. It put meaning into how America's spread west occured, how we encroached on Indain space, and raises good questions about people, culture, adaption, and so forth. I found myself asking "Who were the barbarians?" The story was told with information on Cynthia Parker and her son Quanah giving personal focus to the history.
