This was a much more leisurely read than Let the Right One In and Handling the Undead - you might even say the first half or so was slow (and even the last half never really becomes a page-turner). Fine descriptions of the land, sea, and people, with a slow psychological build-up that sorta becomes horror by the end. There were a few too many digressions that never turned into anything (a bit of editing would have helped) and too much of it seemed directionless for my taste - to the point where I really wished it was over, before it was over. I ended up liking it, but no more. It certainly doesn't stand up to LTROI, which was one of my favorite reads of the last several years.
