really liked it
bookshelves: 2011, nook

We all love to place neat, tidy labels on everything we come into contact with. That piece of music? That’s totally indie. That novel you just read? Obviously it falls under science-fiction. What about that girl over there in the purple sweater? You can tell that she’s a total bitch just by looking at her. How about that massive hulk of a guy dwarfing everyone else in the food line? He’s got to be a jock.

In reality though, things are never that cut and dry. That indie piece of music is influenced by folk and pop rock. The science-fiction novel is also a mystery and love story. The girl in the purple sweater isn’t a bitch all the time (though much like everyone else she has her moments), it turns out she’s just super shy. The jock, well there’s more to him than simply being a big, mean, tackling machine on the football field.

Penny (Literary Hoarders) Great, now I have to dig in to this one AND Half Blood Blues (the winner!)....

Aaron (Typographical Era) Half Blood Blues is amazing. So great that it won. The Antagonist is SCARY in how well it captures the male psyche.

Aaron (Typographical Era) Oh, and 65 pages into the cat's table and I think i can safely say skip it! :)

Penny (Literary Hoarders) Yes, my friend is reading and says that he just comes across as a pompous ass and likes to write in "sound bites" and kind of preachy like or in a way where he comes across as Full of Himself. I just never wanted to read it because I don't like how he quickly became a shortlisted author when he JUST released the book! Not fair in my opinion. Happy to see that HBB won!
