it was amazing
bookshelves: blooms-canon, dark

I really can't believe I waited this long to read this book. It's such a small treasure. Only takes a couple of hours to get through, but what an impact. These three characters are something else. The manipulative, "ill" and helpless wife. The seductive but innocent and equally helpless young girl. And Ethan, stuck between the two of them. Really stuck. Usually, when I read a book like this, I feel like "man, this guys so stupid. He should have done X and he could have gotten out of it all." I swear, this predicament is so well-constructed by Wharton I can't find a way out for Ethan. Or for any of them.

I'll be thinking about this one for awhile.
