Quite a read! This long, meandering, proposals-filled, close-up and wide-angle view of early 19th Century Russia - with a concluding (out of place) treatise on the essence of history and the meaning of life - could almost be called "A Russian People's History of the Napoleanic Wars."

Yet for all its hugeness, leave it to Tolstoy to not actually conclude the story!
