Ever since The Rules of Magic was released last year, I’ve been trying to fit it and Practical Magic into my reading life. I finally made it a priority to read it this October because it just seemed slinky natural. Witches, spells, and magic? Yes, please!

I enjoyed the writing style of this book very much, but I found myself getting bored quite often and considered DNFing. I think I was expecting something very different than what the book was actually about and so that threw me off for what I was actually reading.

I loved how Hoffman sprinkled the narrative with superstitions and sayings. I enjoyed how she’d seamlessly switch point of views in different paragraphs. I loved the whimsical feel of the story. But overall, there was just something missing for me.

I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you this makes me nervous to pick up The Rules of Magic. If you’ve read both, which book was your favorite?
