Debut novels that are reviewed favorably certainly attract my attention. One having to do with baseball merits even more attention.Additionally, the writers pedigree certainly suggests this will be worth the read.
I liked the book, but I have reservations. In many ways the characters are flat and not well developed. The writing lacks the kind of electric prose that makes the reader want more. I like the metaphor of baseball for our lives. I suppose we are all fielding, throwing, pitching, committing errors, tring to steal etc. I would be surprised if the author didnt have this is mind.
This book didnt effect me like, The Corrections, or Freedom, or just about anything by Pat Conroy, but perhaps I am being unfair. I liked the book and will be anxious to read Harbaugh's next.
