I have found interest and inspiration in a lot of Life after death books. I exclude only those that deal with reincarnation, seances, and mysticism. This one was very interesting and takes a different but hardly unknown point of view. Being warned or comforted by the spirits of the departed has been going on for Melania, and has been written about personally by several ancient Greeks and Romans. Accounts are all through Christian literature, diaries, etc.

From the Amazon blurb:
"After-death communications,"or "ADCs," occur when someone is contacted spontaneously and directly by a deceased family member or friend, without the help of any medium. The authors' research shows that these spiritual experiences offer hope, love, and comfort for thousands of people. Included are more than 350 first-hand accounts of those whose lives have been changed and even protected by messages or signs from the deceased.
