The Earl of Straithern recently lost two of his brothers. The doctor thinks it was to a blood disease but the Earl thinks poison was involved. Whatever the case he thinks he should marry and start on the whole heirs business. The perfect solution is to marry the doctor's daughter but from the first he prefers her companion. Can he sort out his love life and solve the mystery of his brothers' killer?

Oh so lame a premise. It had all the earmarks of a gothic horror rather then a romance. Very Wuthering Heights without the excellent writing. Two and a half stars from me.
