My teen boys are obsessed with hip-hop, and while there's a lot of really important art in that genre...there's also a lot of edgy content that I'd prefer my sons not marinate in all day. So, in addition to joining them in their pursuit, listening (and sometimes cringing) with them and talking through the iTunes A-List: Hip Hop, I've tried to find some content that is great art without being endlessly explicit. Enter Lecrae.

Once labeled a "Christian rapper," he's worked to shed the label, insisting that he's simply a rapper who happens to be a Christian. His music went from good to great, and he's now collaborating with many of A-list producers (like Metro Boomin).

"Unashamed" is his personal story--from abused youth to drug dealer to unlikely college student and finally, rapper. It's not quite as good as his music, but a worthy read nonetheless.
