really liked it

I love a good memoir and this one kept me turning pages, thinking about how very normal my life seems by comparison. Jeannette Walls recounts her youth with unconventional parents (parents who eventually choose to be homeless because, as her mother says, it's an adventure) and how she and her siblings get away from that atmosphere and lifestyle.

There are parts of this book that are funny and parts that are quite sad. I felt an admiration for the author and her siblings for overcoming that life and going on to be what sounds (in the book anyway) like relatively well-adjusted adults.

And there is something about her father, Rex, that even when you know he's going to come home drunk and he's going to spend the children's money on alcohol, there's still something so endearing about him and the way he loves Jeannette.
