Victor could have been much better if only the length of this book was taken into consideration while writing it. I mean you go into this book with a vague idea of supernatural beings and you will come out with the same vagueness since there are a shit ton of characters for the short length of the story so none of them get any good amount of details.
The Central Park setting was not working for me, it doesn't add up to the aesthetics of a vamp story. It looks ridiculous, the whole chase in the freaking park was absurd or hiding in some cave sorta locations in the park. Weird. Either you embrace the city environment or use a more wild location for the setup which was impossible since Victor was made to be richest of the rich businessman, just a tiny nudge away from being THE richest dude. Not to forget that he is old so he is powerful, so much that only the head of the Directive can top him and even that is a close call. Why does he have to be so ultra everything especially when his character never has the time to establish this image?
Kimber was nothing to write home about just like Victor. She was a dragon being chased by the bad guys to harness the dragon magic she has. If they could capture her and make her do whatever with her magic, why couldn't she just use that magic to fight these people off? Why run away to a city like NEW YORK where she obviously can't shift? This magic is never explored. Other than her shifting to a dragon form and breathing fire, I don't know what else Kimber can do that makes her so precious.
The rest of the characters are just like placeholder cards, the maid/fae who practically dumps information in every scene she is a part of. The bodyguard/bestie who is supposed to be funny. The directive dude who even has his own POV for no reason since it doesn't actually add to the focal point of this book that is the romance. Even the bad guy gets a POV which you don't care for since it's too soon. And even for Mister Big, it's felt nothing more than a temper tantrum. Victor went down pretty easily against a novice despite his ultra everything persona LOL.
In the end it was the writing that nails this a 1 star. A fresh pair of eyes or even a reread before publishing this could have smoothed over the jarring dialogues, repetitiveness or the classic case of telling instead of showing. Some of the more interesting stuff is rushed like Kimber's first time shift for Victor. Not to worry, you have the sex though! *eye roll*
