really liked it
bookshelves: mind-blowing, strong-female-lead, science-fiction, ya-teen, apocalyptic

When I was about half way through I was only going to give this book 3 stars, but as the book went on it just kept getting better and better until I HAD to know if Miranda and her family made it and how. Miranda's transformation from typical teenager at the beginning to strong woman at the end was touching and really well done. The story completely terrified me in the same way that Hatchet terrified me. I could feel my brain making little lists of things to do if this situation were every to happen for real. I think that everyone should read this book, or one similar, so that the consequences of global climate change (albiet, in this case, instant) can really be brought home.

I didn't find out until going to leave this review that this is the first in a series, but I'll definitely be checking to see if the others are out yet.
