it was ok
bookshelves: african, fiction, book-club

This was not the kind of book I would ever read of my own accord. It was a book club pick to read this with the past in mind.

Usually, I like books where I lack a historical context. It makes me feel as though I'm learning something, and that the story provided is so much deeper than what I can possibly get out of it. They feel like an endless ocean full of potential.

However, I had absolutely no basis for understanding in this book. It was almost like it was written in a foreign language for the first section (the second and third sections were a lot more understandable, but that had to do with the tragedy of the human condition, not the specifics of a particular culture.)
