bookshelves: teen-reads
Read from October 10 to 15, 2011

Take one hormonally challenged teenaged boy. Add in one strong case of unmedicated ADD, Liberally spice with lust, bad decision making, and an overactive teenaged brain and libido and mix liberally with a non-stop inner monologue (with the ocassional inner duologue) and you get Carter. A happy go-lucky disaster in residence.

This book has the same sort of charm as Inside Out but in a slightly less dysfunctional package. But only slightly less dysfunctional.

The main character is a charmer but sometimes in the way a baby in a kitchen full of hot liquids and sharp knives is charming. No matter how much you care for the kid, you can see disaster looming. Fortunately no one dies and Carter somehow manages to avoid any fatal disasters while stirring up some laugh out loud slapstick moments with only the best intentions.

You'll love this quirky kid.

34.0% "what is it with kids with aspergers/autism/ADD? Lately I seem to be reading a lot of first person accounts that are hilarious. Their internal filters just don't funcyion and their observations about a inexplicably bizaare world are hilarious"
