Chime did not initially grab me, but as I continued reading, I got pulled into the story. This is an intriguing blend of historical fiction and fantasy, set in an England filled with fantastical creatures out in the countryside. This does not become immediately apparent, as the beginning focuses on introducing the main character Briony and focuses on her relationship with her family members - her twin sister, Rose, her clergyman father, and her deceased Stepmother. As more is revealed about the family dynamics, more of the otherworldly connections appear. It builds up to a fast-paced climax and a resolution to the mystery that becomes apparent during the story.
