** spoiler alert ** Steven Pacey is an extraordinary reader - this performance is simply pitch perfect.

And i don't know that i'd have ever agreed to read this book on paper. Harris' ability to evoke compassion for folks we might not really care to spend 30 minutes with is interesting. For all the considerable skill involved in telling this story, it's one of those books that makes me wonder why. Not why these issues or theme but why this way of telling it - especially the choice to lodge her assessments of what is wrong with the status quo within the psyche of a homicidal sociopath and to end the story with a nearly homoerotic tribute to schoolboys in which i cannot find a trace of irony. Those choices are what define the book for me, so while i can recommend the listening experience, i cannot recommend the story.
