Extremely well-written and fairly honest, The Imperfectionists is so cold and bleak in its exploration of life at an English language newspaper in Rome. In what seems like a fantasy job in a fantasy life, Rachman reveals all the ways in which we settle, manipulate, and ignore the ugliness that life is. I liked it, but it depressed the hell out of me.
