I didn't realize until I just now logged on to that this book is the second in a two-book series. I haven't read book one and my local library does not have it. The way this book ended, I had supposed there would be a book following it.

I thought the story moved so slowly that even by the mid-point in the book it seemed to me that nothing had happened yet. I think I could even say that two-thirds of the way through the book, nothing had happened. Even when there was trouble to resolve in the last part of the book, it seemed to move at a very sedate pace. I finished the book, so that is a minimum of two stars, but it is the fact that was willing to read a second volume (if it existed, which it does not)that makes me give this book three stars or at least 2-1/2 stars and rounded to three. However, I did not like it enough to read book one to see what I could have missed.
