Since I had to read Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton in high school years ago, I have been intrigued with books that take place in South Africa. So I was naturally attracted to the new title, Stones for my Father. This is a small, excellently written historical story about Corlie Roux and her family and their struggle to survive during the the Boer War. It is a small book with a painful, heartfelt and resilient punch.
