it was amazing

I couldn’t have read this book at a better time! Why? The action is settled close to Christmas and it’s a thriller with a dose of romance perfect for cold evenings when you’re not in the mood to go out. I am so sorry I could not give it more than 4.5 stars! I seriously wanted to, but I had two main reasons which compelled me not to do it (but I will cheat in the end!).

First off, what I mostly enjoyed was having in the center of attention the writer. Yes, the main characters are working to protect her and so on and so forth. But she is the key to unlock the mystery. She is the most important person in the book. Rosalee Kane’s life, her memoirs, herself as a writer are the most important things, the things that trigger the action. We see a glimpse of what is like to be an author and the pressure that comes with it.

Second of all, the characters are very likeable. Rosalee is such a lovely lady, with a young soul and a love for life and nature. Her experienced eyes noticed the attraction between her nephew Nelson (aka FBI) and her bodyguard Justine Shelby (aka Northstar). And these two are very enjoyable characters, with strong personalities. Their conversations are funny, smart and even sassy. Shelby’s wish to offer to children something she did not have as a kid warmed my heart!

Now for the things I did not enjoy that much. Until a point, I was wondering who the culprit might be, but then someone says something and the lights went on. From that moment the book becomes predictable. And even with the predictability, if I would have seen a maor “BOOM, that’s him!”, I would have accepted it better. But it all seemed almost factual. Also, the super connection that forms between Kane and Shelby is too sudden.

But a mega bonus for keeping the story focused on the writer! I am trying to keep this review spoiler-free, so I cannot detail much on that. But the ending coincides with all Rosalee’s problems solved. And for that, I am rounding the rating to 5 stars. I loved the idea of having her as center stage!
