I've never had a lot of love for Chamber of Secrets. Possibly because Azkaban was my favourite (until Deathly Hallows) and I always couldn't wait to get to it. But I read it as academically as I could and it's no different to Philosopher's Stone. The pace and the plot points are good, the dialogue is witty and occasionally laugh out loud funny - the escape from Privet Drive in the Flying Ford Anglia has always been one of my favourite moments in the series. All that said and I still can't quite put my finger on why, out of the seven, this is my least favourite. I suppose one of them has to be my least favourite, but I am oddly rankled by the way Chris Columbus butchered the movie, so there is some fondness buried inside. Maybe a few more re-readings will help me work out my feelings on Chamber.
