Written around the time of the first Gulf War, the final chapters seem dated now, but nevertheless the best account of the petroleum industry ever written. I especially found the 1973 Yom Kippur War and resulting OPEC embargo intriguing. Perhaps if modern Russia doesn't learn from history, and their keep turning off the gas to punish Europe for policy differences, the Anglos and Scandanavians will seek calmer waters, even at higher cost. This book is an excellent introduction to the business and a foundation to understanding the nuances of today's oil industry.
