The general idea behind the book was fun, and the bones are there for a great book. But the story was preposterous and anachronistic and required a whole lot of patience. It is simply _too long_ for the type of story that it is. Instead of using one or two scenes to communicate an idea, the author uses ten. Everything drags out interminably.
