Recommended for: those interested in Jewish life in Italy before WW2
Read in September, 2011 , read count: 2

Read this back in college as part of a class and re-read this again before giving it away to a friend (to make space for more books!).

It compares the protagonist from a Jewish family who assimilated against a family who did not. Although it poses some interesting questions and gives the reader some beautiful scenes, the pace slows down when it gets to the romantic angst of the lead.
