I haven't found any of Beverley's later Malloren books to be nearly as fun as her earlier one, and this one continues that trend. Woe and alas. The stakes in this one feel very low: there's not all that much conflict between the two leads once circumstances maneuver them into marriage, and the book ends up feeling a bit pointless. A cameo appearance by the Countess of Arradale feels as if it's stuck in the story solely to please fans of the earlier books, but does little for this book.
