really liked it
bookshelves: historical-romance

Well, this was an interesting story of an independent widow Emeline with a son being requested to help her neighbor's sister come out to society. The neighbor, an unconventional American, Samuel who wears mocassins is searching for the murder of his army troop, including the deceased brother of Emeline. Samuel brings out the passionate nature of Emeline demanding she accept him as himself and damn society! She keeps a side of the story of Samuel's sister falling in love with the butler which could have made more of an interesting plot! Beneath the steamy affair- had a lot do with class and society's expectations weaved at the beginning of each chapter was an excerpt from the fairy tale "Iron Heart." This was an interesting way to cross link and in some ways the fairy tale connected because it was the brother's favorite story- the person who in strange way brought Samuel and Emeline together.
