A good first part and ending part (altho it has no ending, the last book in the series was already on its way) Sadly suffers from a big middle chunk where there is alot of badly written characters that seem much more amateurishly created than what these authors are capable of. One character in particular really becomes a parody in this part.
Lots of characters are introduced at the start of this mid-section but some are only there for a few chapters before dying and not really having had an impact on the plot as a whole.
Also, after the characters talk about sex for the millionth time you gotta wonder why Lee puts that stuff in there. Theres no graphic sex scenes, just tons of talking about it and most of it didnt add anything to the plot. This is present all throughout this book but it really got annoying there in the middle when it was more about the people than the world they live in.

Id say the beginning and end was a 4 out of 5, it it's best this book is really good, as good as Rama II although not quite as good as the Excelent original Rendezvous with Rama.
But the middle was a 2, sometimes a 1. So all in all I rate this a 3 out of 5 stars.
