If half-stars existed, I might've given this three and a half.. but in truth it didn't quite do enough to merit a four. A well-plotted Nordic Noir novel set in Iceland, grumpy cop tracking down who killed a woman suspected of blackmailing folk involved in swinging, a side-plot about a man taking revenge on his abuser.

It - like the only other Indriðason novel I read - felt a bit like it was missing something in the translation, parts nicely written and evocative, parts a little plain and adding little. The names and locations slightly lost me at times though, hard to follow (as can be the case for Scandi crime at times). I didn't really connect with the main protagonist either - too often he was unconvincingly maverick, and the author threw in some odd political and economy commentary too which I didn't care for. The side story was utterly irrelevant as well.

That said, a quick and decent ride though, perfectly readable and entertaining, a little different but nothing outstanding.
