I had very high hopes for this story but couldn't get into it. Annie's live-in boyfriend leaves her, and she quickly ends up in a relationship with Griffin. She leaves LA and elopes in a quickie Las Vegas wedding with Griffin before going with him to his home in Massachusetts.

As a newlywed, you look forward to living together alone for privacy. This didn't happen for Annie as Griffin's Ph.D.-hopeful brother and two nephews have moved into the residence for reasons you will quickly learn. This doesn't make for as smooth of a getting-to-know-you phase that, for reasons you'll learn, wouldn't have been so smooth even if it had been just Griffin and Annie.

I loved Dave's metaphors and physical imagery used in the book. She used beautiful language and situations where readers could say, "Yeah, I've been there." However, I never developed a sense of empathy for any of the characters in the story. I was disappointed as I'd really enjoyed Dave's novel The Divorce Party.
