This was seriously my favorite book when I was in high school.

I just finished re-reading it yesterday, and it was interesting how little I remembered from the book. I don't think I ever went back to it after the movie came out, although I read it several times before that. It also surprised me how different it was from the movie, and how much better the movie is. I think what it is is that Crichton really isn't that good of a storyteller. He's got the science (and in some cases pseudoscience), he's got the premise, but none of the characters arc, they all preach too much, and none of them seemed like real people.

All that being said, though, it was still fun to read about the dinosaurs eating people--especially Nedry.
