really liked it

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book. The chemistry between Tearlach and Maddie is obvious - to everyone except them. He's admired her from afar for many years, but because of her beastly father he never even tries to speak with her. She notices him, too, but is too cowed to think he'd ever be interested in her. Complicating matters is the fact that she's a noble and he's a guardsman. And then they're separated when her father is imprisoned.

Maddie is finally happy, out from under the rule of her father. She lives a quiet life in the country and hopes that the king will forget about trying to find her a husband. While out for a walk, she accidentally slips and falls down a cliff. She's trapped. She knows that no one knows where she is and that it's unlikely that anyone will come looking for her. But who should happen to come along? Tearlach.

A bit too coincidental.

But their relationship deepens, despite the fact that he sees her as out of his league and she lacks the confidence she needs to feel like there's a chance for them. Then fate intervenes, and not in a good way. Her warden wants her dowry and will do anything to get it.
