While I totally welcome Joe Pike getting his own series (without dismissing Elvis Cole and his role as Pike's best friend completely), the plot of this one is a bit too, uhm, ordinary.

Pike taking care of a girl (as her "watchman" a.k.a. bodyguard, no matter what he says), and she is a rich younger and misunderstood girl, and in the course of that, there is love. Sure, there isn't any kisses or sexual advances, but, for me, it's a too much of a cliché. Not to mention that the twist, the bad guy, I can actually guess along the way. It doesn't surprise me as much.

Still, it's always nice to know more about Pike's past, this time by having his mentor as part of the book.
