it was amazing
bookshelves: young-adult-fiction
Read from April 01 to 04, 2012

Well that was intense. It was certainly a lot more gruesome in nature than I would have expected from a young teen novel. Some of it was quite disturbing.

I liked the pace, though. It was fast moving and full of action--my kind of read.

I liked that Suzanne Collins took ownership of the story line. Even though this plot line has been done before (Her inspiration was an old Greek myth; and snobby elitists will say it's a rip off of Battle Royale), she puts her own spin on things to keep things fresh. The idea of the sponsors in the games made the whole thing a lot more interesting. In the same way, she put a great twist in the love triangle by keeping Katniss aloof.
