Great writing, but I do find Africa more interesting than Alexandra Fuller's mother, which is the focus of her third memoire-ish book. Apparently her mother called Let's not go to the Dogs Tonight that "horrid" book. This, apparently, is intended as appeasement? Showing more understanding of why her mother is the way she is? Acknowledgement of the mother's side of their mother/daughter issues? Not sure, and no doubt there was some reconciliation or light bulb moment by the end, but I returned the book to the library when it was due instead of finishing it...
