really liked it
bookshelves: katie-pick

Homer and Langley is the fictionalized account of the lives of the infamous Collyer Brothers. One blind, one mad, these two men lived in their 5th Avenue mansion in complete squalor. They collected all sorts of things from the outside world, from stacks and stacks of newspapers to a Model T Ford that was obsessively brought up and reassembled in their dining room.

This is a fascinating story of real people, though its telling is largely imagined. The writing is absolutely beautiful. I now plan to seek out the rest of Doctorow's novels.
