Mark Hi Mark, what did you think of this novel?

Mark Not sure how to summarize. It is overly long. The beginning parts about Monkey are increasingly crazy, until Monkey is single-handedly fighting most of the Chinese pantheon. The majority of the book, the Journey, is somewhat more sane, but not too focused. It is kind of like a bunch of story tellers got around a fire and each one is trying to one-up the previous story.

It would have been better for me if it wasn't a library loan. Then I wouldn't need to hurry and could dip into one episode at a time as the mood strikes.

Mark As a classic of Chinese literature I was curios how you thought it stacked up. Thanks for your summary!

Mark Another thought: although I would by no means say Tales of the Arabian Nights is better, I enjoyed it more because the stories are typically shorter and more varied.
