really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, young-adult, library

This is geared to a younger set, generally boys of 9 or 10 years - especially those that have enjoyed some adventure books like Jacques' Redwall series. However, just like Harry Potter, there is a great deal here for adults to enjoy as well.

There is friendship, mystery, some wryly funny moments and a good overarching plot that may be quickly apparent or may not, depending on how familiar the reader is with certain types of books.

I definitely enjoyed it though I found one character to be oddly annoying but that was a definite personal reaction.

Additionally, there is quite a bit of violence and at least one 'on screen' death which may not be suitable for some.
