A new author who writes novels in verse! Alice is still in deep pain from her mother's death from cancer. Her father's remarried and a new baby has just been born. Alice relies on her boyfriend Blaze and her friend Claire, who help her fan the flames of her hatred and frustration. Her home is a cold, armed camp with misuderstandings and silences.

Her music sustains Alice, but even that has been too dark for too long.

A family trip changes everything. Alice, along with Vic her stepmother, and Ivy her infant sister, get trapped by a freak snowstorm.Isolated and frightened, they finally form an alliance, doing everything they can to save baby Ivy.

When Vic finally decides she must leave the two girls and go get help, things become even more dire.

The poetry is infinitely readable, the emotions are right there on the surface.

Alice will always miss her beloved mother who seems so far away. She rejects all attempts by her father and new stepmother to reach out...they are far away. Ivy? Just another symbol of the family Alice feels she's lost.

But what if her loved ones aren't that far away? What if they're watching over her, helping her grow and learn to accept life?
