really liked it
bookshelves: nonfiction

I read this for my university Folklore course. It's a really good introduction to what folklore is, what folklorists do, and the history of the field. It doesn't go into great detail, but instead provides readers with a casual overview of things, and it does so in a way that's very approachable and modern; the author knew well that the audience for this book would be young and probably encountering these things for the first time, and so took pains to throw humour and wit into the mix, to keep readers amused and engaged. For a brief overview, it was really good, and if people are looking for a jumping-off point regarding folklore studies, they could do far worse than this book.
