really liked it

The story of an orphan growing up in Afrikaner South Africa during and after WWII. The main character, Tom, was entirely lovable and his sorrows and triumphs kept me engaged throughout. Interesting historical context that seemed well researched. Actually, I remember thinking that of The Power of One when I read it years ago too.
Overall, a very satisfying read.
